Volunteering at LHCS

Join your student in the Lower Campus cafeteria for lunch as a Dragon Diner! Dragon Diners help create a positive climate during lunchtime, growing students' social skills and awareness. This is a great way to join your student, meet their friends, and be involved within our school community — no sign-up or experience needed.

Dragon Diner drop-ins are always welcome and encouraged any day. Just plan to arrive a few minutes before lunch to check-in at the Office.

Each class has 1-4 Room Reps who work to build a classroom community. Tasks may include classroom communication, documenting moments for the Yearbook, and organizing/recruiting volunteers. Room Reps may split these tasks however works for their class. No prior experience required, and some tasks can be done from home on your own schedule.

We're looking for Art Adventure volunteers! Volunteers coordinate with classroom teachers to facilitate mini-lessons (curriculum from MIA) and art projects for students 2x per year — no classroom experience, art background, or prior training required. It's a fun, low-pressure way to spend time with kids in the classroom while learning about art together.

Art Adventure is a program that engages students with artworks from the Minneapolis Institute of Art’s collection, sending visual arts into classrooms through the support of trained volunteers. Students experience art up close and personal through reproductions, technology, and touch-and-feel props.

The LHCS Garden Team is a gardening, conservation, and education partnership of the Lake Harriet Community School PTA. We cultivate healthy outdoor spaces across both campuses including caring for Lower Campus pollinator gardens, tending Upper Campus vegetable beds, and organizing hands-on events like Earth Day cleanups and student planting days.

Volunteering is a great, flexible way to get outdoors with your kids! Opportunities range from brief summer watering shifts to seasonal garden workdays. No prior experience needed.

The PTA organizes volunteers for events throughout the school year, from big community gatherings to smaller day-of support. The biggest is DragonFest, our school carnival, which relies heavily on volunteer help to pull off. Other events that call for volunteers include the Book Fair, Picture Day, and Teacher Appreciation activities throughout the year.
