Curriculum
THE WHOLE CHILD
Lake Harriet staff and parents are committed to academic rigor for our children. We are also committed to their education in the arts, physical health, social skills development, and community service. We believe in educating the whole child, respecting each child’s unique learning style, and challenging each child to reach his or her full potential.
LAKE HARRIET LOWER (grades K-2)
The elementary grades offer a time for students to grow in their love of learning and flourish. Our experienced teachers create unique, small learning communities and use flexible grouping in reading and math in order to challenge students at all levels. All students are assessed regularly so their individual needs can be met and challenged. All teachers are trained in the science of reading, which means that we provide research based literacy instruction. Benchmark Universe along with PRESS, a research based phonics reading program, support all students with phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills.
LAKE HARRIET UPPER (grades 3-5)
Lake Harriet Upper offers a challenging curriculum in a supportive and nurturing environment. The intermediate grades (grades 3-5) provide the right balance of nurture and challenge for curious, energetic students. Teachers emphasize social and academic growth, building on student-to-student and student-to-teacher relationships.
