Read-A-Thon Begins Next Week
The annual LHCS Read-A-Thon runs the month of February and encourages all students to read and engage with various types of written word: books, magazines, graphic novels, newspapers and audio books.
The main requirement for the Read-a-Thon is that kids keep track of their reading minutes (ie: minutes read outside of school). Children can log minutes by reading books, reading the comics, listening to an audiobook or listening to a parent reading to them – it all counts! At the end of the month you’ll submit your student’s total minutes online. These entries can help kids win gift certificates to Wild Rumpus, a donut party for their classroom OR even a new bike!
More instructions, along with a tally sheet to log minutes, will be sent home with students this week – keep an eye out!
Help Promote Literacy at LHCS: The Read-a-Thon is also a PTA Fundraiser. Donations benefit PTA grants that promote literacy, such as Scholastic Magazine and BrainPop subscriptions. Donate to help fund these initiatives. Thanks so much!
