LHCS PTA Resolution Calls for Delay in School Transformation Process

LHCS PTA Resolution Calls for Delay in School Transformation Process

At its Sept 28th meeting, the LHCS PTA unanimously passed a resolution that opposes the three school transformation options proposed by MPS, and calls on the School Board to delay a final vote until more clarity is provided. The resolution was drafted based on the results of the LHCS school transformation survey which captured the views of 273 individuals within our school community.

Key messages from the survey included concern that the proposals would not improve MPS’s long-term financial situation and that school closures would lead to further enrollment losses. For LHCS specifically, there was overwhelming opposition to boundary changes that split the existing school community and skepticism that Upper Campus could be renovated to support the populations of both sites in time for the ‘27-’28 school year.

Passage of this resolution enables the PTA to publicly state an official position that represents the will of its members and to engage in actions with affiliated organizations who share our goals. The full resolution wording as well as a summary of the LHCS survey can be viewed in the Sept 28th PTA presentation.
